Silente Lamps

In collaboration with Lichtstudio

In the design practice of NOA, the creation of concepts that unfold on various scales is a common occurrence: from architecture to interior design, all the way to furnishings. This approach was also carried out in the restoration and expansion project of Monastero, whose acclaimed success prompted the studio to make the specifically designed products available to design lovers. Among these is the Silente Lamps collection, crafted in collaboration with Lichstudio.

Creating a design concept across diverse scales is the ambitious challenge that the collective of architects and interior designers at NOA undertakes to give depth and coherence to each of its creations. To achieve this, the studio has committed to building a network of professionals capable of adding value to the project, collaborating over the years with artisans, manufacturers, and product designers. A tangible example of this modus operandi is the Monastero Arx Vivendi hotel in Arco, on Lake Garda. The intervention involved an abandoned monastery dating back to the 17th century: the monumental spaces of the cloister have been transformed into a hotel of utmost comfort without losing the subdued charm of the ancient nuns’ cells and the peaceful, meditative atmosphere of the garden where the new spa is located. For this project, NOA collaborated with two companies to design and manufacture three custom furnishings: a set of lamps, a table, and a chair. The resonance of the project and the enthusiasm of the guests were such that the studio decided to reproduce these design pieces, making them available for purchase.

The lamps are made of powder-coated galvanized steel in black. They are characterized by a wide circular plate onto which the light bulb is visibly inserted. They evoke the ecclesiastical hat known as the “Saturno”, creating a symbolic interplay with the surrounding context. They can be found in both common spaces and rooms, coming in three variations.  The lamps are developed and produced in South Tyrol and Veneto in collaboration with the company Lichtstudio. The price range is from €190 to €570. They can be ordered here.

Available as a single light or with dual lights. The latter type is particularly suitable for enhancing historical vaults and ceilings, as well as for bringing light to the upper part of the room.

"The public spaces of the monastery exude a formal rigor and grandeur that mirror the time and the context for which it was built. In designing the new lamps, we sought a strong contrast through lines with a contemporary edge, yet always sticking to the concept of geometric rigor, essentiality, and monochrome.”

lichtstudio

Lichtstudio is a company based in Merano that specializes in comprehensive lighting solutions. It was founded in 1957 by Artur Eisenkeil, who introduced the cocoon technique to Italy in the same year – a method involving resin sprayed onto a metal frame. This technique contributed to the creation of some iconic pieces of Italian design. A few years later, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, together with Tobia Scarpa were invited to experiment with this new production method. This led to a successful collaboration, and in 1962, they founded one of the most renowned companies in the lighting industry, Flos, which initiated the production of the distinctive Cocoon lamps. To this day, Lichtstudio continues to manufacture the Cocoon series for Flos, while expanding its portfolio of offered activities.
